Take a day trip to the Coromandel township with a ride on driving creek railway a narrow gauge railway that takes you through native bush to a scenic high point, have lunch at one of the local cafes and restaurants, visit local art galleries.
On the return visit the Iconic New Chum Beach with a delightful walk via an ancient Pohutakawa and Nikau Palm Grove to the peacefulness of this most stunning of New Zealand’s Beaches and one that has been voted in the top 20 beaches of the World. Later you may wish to stop at the settlement of Kuaotunu with its famous ice-cream dairy shop, with its impressive ice-cream assortment. If time allows take a ride on Black Jack Road to see magnificent Otama and Opito Beaches.
The following day, drive South to Kauri Grove on 309 Road, visit the settlements of Cooks Beach with its Shakespeare Cliff the location where Captain Cook observed the Transit of Mercury and how the Bay got its name To Lonely Bay Beach and isolated beach and favourite among wedding couples. Why not have lunch at Mercury Bay Wine Estate where you can taste local wines whilst
enjoying stunning views over the bay. Visit and take the coastal walk to Cathedral Cove and visit Hot Water Beach to dig your own hot pool for bathing. Or visit The Lost Spring to sooth in their hot thermal baths.
Mercury Bay offers so much for who wish to take on a more active activity, from Cathedral Cove Kayaking, or less active, but still very visually attractive, trips on boats to the islands, water caves
with possible swimming and snorkelling, or do a day cruise and experience the delights of a rigged sailing ship the: Windborne’ for the day of exploring the locals bays and islands of the Hauraki Gulf.
